Job Description Summary

The energy grid is changing fast — and the software that controls it needs to keep pace. As Engineering Manager for Control Software within GE Vernova's Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) business, you will lead a global engineering team delivering the control software that sits at the heart of some of the world's most advanced reactive power systems.

GE Vernova's Grid Solutions business delivers reactive power compensators, including Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) and Static Var Compensators (SVC).

Finland is our global Centre of Excellence (CoE) for this technology. These systems control power system voltage and reactive power flow, improve power system stability, and increase transmission efficiency. Through this work, you will help global customers save vital energy and secure stable electricity distribution.

This is a role for someone who wants to shape both a team and a technology — and who sees leadership as a way to multiply impact, not just manage work.

Job Description

What You'll Do

You will lead the Control Software team responsible for delivering software solutions across the full project lifecycle — from tender evaluation through detailed design to on-site commissioning. As a People Leader, your focus is as much on your team as it is on the technology.

Lead and develop your team — manage day-to-day people leadership, mentor team members, support new recruitment, and build a resource portfolio that scales with project demand

Drive delivery — plan, organise, and execute Control Software activities for both tenders and live projects, ensuring delivery meets demanding customer specifications

Own project resourcing — validate resource needs and work estimates across your portfolio, identifying and resolving gaps early

Advance quality — champion a first-time-right culture and identify continuous improvement opportunities across engineering processes

Set and track objectives — define and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the team and individual contributors, keeping performance aligned with business goals

Support R&D — contribute to technical research and development in the FACTS Control Software space, helping to keep GE Vernova at the forefront of the field

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a technically grounded engineering leader who is as comfortable developing people as solving complex control software problems.

Required:

A degree in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor's or Master's level) or similar

Relevant experience in substation or grid control software design, including technologies such as FACTS, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC), or renewable energy integration

Familiarity with engineering process development and continuous improvement methodologies

Strong written and spoken English communication skills

Preferred:

Finnish language skills

Proven experience managing or mentoring engineering teams in an international environment

Exposure to high-power reactive power systems (exceeding 100 MVAr), including Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) or Static Var Compensators (SVC)

A formal education and subsequent Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is nice to have, but we are most interested in your experience and professional achievements.

Why This Role

GE Vernova is the global Centre of Excellence for FACTS technology, based right here in Finland. That means your team's work has direct global reach — the systems you help deliver stabilise grids and improve energy efficiency for customers around the world. You'll have real ownership, a clear path to grow as a leader, and the support of an organisation that invests in its people.

GE Vernova employees rise to the challenge of building a world that works. We offer varied, competitive benefits designed to reward high performers and support your personal and family needs. We believe in helping you grow — through ongoing on-the-job learning, development pathways, and the opportunity to build an international career from Tampere.
